The Challenge

The main roof geometry was sloped, and the project intent avoided a conventional roofing assembly. The roof still needed to perform as a watertight enclosure under Miami weather exposure while maintaining the architectural form and minimizing visual compromises.

Our Approach

MCWC supported a waterproofing-first approach by treating the sloped roof as a continuous waterproofing system rather than a traditional roof build-up. Detailing attention was placed on drainage strategy, transitions, terminations, and penetrations so the system stayed continuous across changes in plane and at perimeter conditions, with an emphasis on constructability and inspection checkpoints during installation.

Results

The roof intent was preserved while achieving a continuous, watertight enclosure strategy aligned with the owner’s expectations. The approach reduced reliance on a “typical” roofing look and focused performance on properly detailed continuity, drainage, and durable terminations.
